Antonio
M. Amaral was born in 1879 in Northern Portugal. At a young age he
learned from his father the art of making fine sausage, especially
Linguica, his favorite. They would sell their sausages at market places
in the surrounding villages. Business was very good for father and
son, but Antonio had a dream of going to the United States.
Saving as much as he could he finally had enough money to bring himself
and his family to America. They arrived in San Leandro, California,
in 1909. After a few years he began making sausages at home to sell.
In 1925 he built a small factory to make these old world products.
That was our beginning and today, in a
modern facility, the fourth generation of Amaral's is making the same
tasty sausage that Antonio did over 100 years ago.
Some things never change, thank
goodness! |
